How to move tokens from Ethereum to Base
Written by XAUConnect Labs · Reviewed against live product behavior · Updated August 2026
Ethereum → Base is the most common “I want cheaper swaps of the same asset family” move. Both chains are EVM. Your address looks the same. That is why people send ERC-20s with a normal transfer to themselves and then wonder why Base is empty — a same-address transfer on Ethereum stays on Ethereum. You need a bridge.
XAUConnect’s cross-chain flow bundles bridge plus any destination swap. This guide is that route, including the USDC-variant trap on arrival.

Frequently asked questions
I sent USDC to my address on Ethereum. Why is Base empty?
That was a same-chain transfer. Use a bridge or XAUConnect cross-chain. The tokens are still on Ethereum.
How long does Ethereum to Base take?
Often a few minutes depending on the bridge and Ethereum confirmations. Canonical paths and third-party paths differ. Track status and verify on Basescan.
Do I need ETH on Base before I bridge?
You can arrive with ETH as the bridged asset. If you arrive with only ERC-20s and zero ETH, you may be unable to swap until you obtain Base ETH for gas.
Is this cheaper than swapping on mainnet?
Usually for subsequent trades. The bridge itself has fees and risk. Amortize that over the trades you will do on Base, not over a single $30 swap.
