How to create a token on Base

How to create a token on Base. Base is where a lot of first-time token creators land: low ETH gas, chain ID 8453, Coinbase-adjacent traffic, and a memecoin culture that will clone your name before your LP lock transaction confirms. Creating on Base does not list you on Coinbase. It puts a contract on Basescan. Liquidity and a published address are the rest of the product.

Why Base versus Ethereum for a first deploy

Mainnet deploy-plus-LP can cost more than the experiment is worth. Base lets you iterate. The trade is neighborhood risk: buyers assume most new Base tickers are hostile. You must over-communicate the contract, the LP lock, and the fact that supply was minted to a disclosed wallet.

Wallet and gas

Connect a wallet on Base with ETH for the launch fee plus gas. Coinbase Wallet users must still be on 8453, not “the Coinbase app balance.” A CEX account cannot sign `createToken`.

Standard launch, name, symbol, supply, metadata. Decide LP against ETH or USDC — those are the spine pools on Base. Lock duration is a promise; pick one you can keep. Review, sign, copy the Basescan address from the receipt.

First swaps

Publish: chain ID 8453, token address, pairing asset address (ETH or native USDC), LP lock link, and “keep ETH for gas.” Link the Base swap guide. If factory was demo-only, do not market a CID as a token. After the second-wallet round-trip, you can talk about memes. Not before.

ETH on Base is not optional decoration

Buyers cannot approve or swap if they arrive with only your token. Tell them to hold Base ETH. Your LP pair should be an asset they can obtain without a scavenger hunt — ETH or native USDC. If factory deploy was demo mode, stop marketing until Basescan shows a contract created by your wallet.
